Abstract

The article deals with the thematic peculiarity of J. Barnes’ works which expose the falsity of the existing national stereotypes that lay claim to credibility and promote xenophobia. This theme is related to the artistic idea of the author’s works which is the denial of the stable, objective, generalized Truth. One of the origins of bigoted stereotypes that complicate relationships between countries is a cultural isolation from other nations. Thus, for the sake of a favorable and comprehensive development of any country’s culture Barnes proclaims the need for contact with other nations, providing, however, that every country withstands globalization and preserves its national identity.
