Jak kocha kamień? Status przyrody nieożywionej w wybranych utworach Marii Sadowskiej

Abstract

In the (not too extensive) literary output of Maria Sadowska, numbering a total of about twenty novels (insufficiently appreciated in the nineteenth century and today largely forgotten), both the animate (fauna and flora) and inanimate (things) world occupy a special place. Sadowska was blessed with exceptional sensitivity and intuition that she was able to pour into the world of other beings, through the rich imagination and sense of humor, which sometimes showed in her work – her favorite literary form was a humorous novel – as well as in private correspondence. Referring imaging literary symbolism of objects and using constructed on the basis of thinking archetypal metaphors, writer concocts a story about the people of her contemporaries, which – it seems – bestowed less sympathy than objects that did the heroes of their works. Things in the works of Maria Sadowska play important and diverse roles at the same time – sometimes they belong to background events, but sometimes they are the main protagonists. This article shows the different ways of being in the world of things in the works of the author.
