Abstract

Study of essays on art serves not only understanding of reflection and interpretation of a work of painting, but also of an author’s idiolect. The analysis of selected texts by Joanna Pollakówna and Zbigniew Herbert is aimed at the latter purpose. The article presents a genre composition of an essay on the above‑mentioned topic, as well as linguistic means of aesthetic evaluation, namely: morphological formations, metaphors, epithets, names of colours. It has been shown how the presence and/or the accumulation of selected linguistic structures determines the author’s idiolect, and illustrates differences in the style of an essay on painting
