Abstract

The article discusses the process and the influence of wedding reception customs on the process of building the community in the 19th-century social space. Obchody weselne (Wedding celebrations) by Zygmunt Gloger, which constitutes the starting point, contains the description of customs, the catalogue of attitudes, and of the approved generation of values. The evocation of overriding rites of passage made it possible to highlight the role of custom repetitiveness and the form of ritual coherence, the result of which was the composition of the connective model of folk culture. The forms recorded by Gloger (among others, songs, oracles/speeches, scripts of plays/games, ritual recitals, wedding reception oracles, evocations) have a visual aspect. They can be perceived as cultural performances; they can be viewed in terms of oral culture. Therefore, approaching these texts, researchers should implement the category of oral literature.
