Leśmianowskie interpretacje „Księgi tysiąca i jednej nocy” w świetle krytyki postkolonialnej

Abstract

Translations and adaptations of parts of “The Book of One Thousand and One Nights” Boleslaw Leśmian created are relatively loosely associated with their literary prototype. One can identify many reasons of this fact, but certainly a key role is played by Leśmian’s literary intentions and his poetic temperament. This paper aims at identifying transformations which Leśmian undertook when translating the original narrative into Polish and an attempt of interpretation of his literary choices from the perspective of postcolonial criticism. Several textual strategies which Leśmian’s storyteller is applying are identified and discussed with the examples (orientalisation, cultural appropriation, moral censorship, eroticisation, groteskisation, miracularisation, stigmatisation).
