„Szli na Zachód osadnicy...” Rola metaforyki przestrzennej w tworzeniu mitologii Ziemi Lubuskiej

Abstract

Spatial metaphorics present in the Lubusz settler literature had a mythogenic function and was linked to the post-war politics of place, serving the adaptation of the areas annexed by Poland. This metaphorics focused on a few figures of the subject’s spatial activity in relation to two basic representations of the Lubusz Land: as the “land of the fathers” (1) and as the “new land”, i.e. a strange and unknown land (2). The first of these representations was carried out under the creed of “return”, the second – of “conquest” and “domestication” of the new area. The examples presented come from the works written between the year 1945 and mid-70ties, and concern themselves with metaphors and spatial motif s which are effective in relation to both the above approaches.
