Abstract

Family as a community of persons exists in the mutual relations of its members to each other, relations to other people, as well as relations to impersonal beings. This relational dimension of its existence is realized under various circumstances, which endow the existence and activity of this community with a particular worth, and which condition the efficacy of its external activity. This kind of the structure of reality creates a specific state of existence called a situation. In its fundamental dimension situation denotes the entanglement of a human being in a concrete reality, manifold and complex in its essence, which sets the limits and the scope of human actions. This article shows the basic conditions defining the context of the existence and activity of contemporary Polish families. The depicted situation of the Polish family causes its internal and external entanglement in the surrounding reality of life, and thereby it determines the possibilities and limits of action. The analysis of the question thus understood includes three elements : 1 ) the material and living conditions; 2 ) social and moral conditions; 3) legal and demographic status.
