Abstract

This article is devoted to a very important problem of Shukshin’s oeuvre. It is the problem of self-determination of the inmost hero, who longs for the celebration of the soul, who is already closed to the limits of the village, but the city horrifies him with loneliness, forgetfulness, stiffness requirements to person. The article examines the image of the city, which is lining up in the minds of the characters, the narrator and the author. The concept of modern civilization is seen in several ways: symbols of things that are present in the village and “contextually” refers to the image of the city (most often it is television, radio, accounts, books, and through that establish relationships or to settle scores); sustained motives and the unit spaces description, which are filled unequally in different periods of art. The author understands existence as a process, as a perpetual motion of forms, which dictates an interconvertible character of developments and interpenetration of spaces. His hero is tested by the city, the situation “city – village” acquires an existential nature, strains, symbolic nature.
