Abstract

Monastic life and consecrated life are a part of the universal Church that wishes to live and serve the Church, to be for her and with her, not leading a policy of one's own in any area. Their desire is to communicate to contemporary man the message of Jesus by the life of its members and pastoral initiatives. This kind of life is subject to the joys and difficulties that touch the whole Church and every believer. Clearly, consecrated life has its own specific character and identity, its proper place and its difficulties, but always within the Church. The article presents first the situation of the Church and monastic life in a Europe on its way to unification, and secondly it attempts to address the following question: does monastic life meet new expectations and how does it strive to realize them?
