Abstrakt: | Fr. Michal Sopocko (1888-1971) was working as a pedagogue and as an educator during the times which witnessed a struggle of many pedagogical approaches. The arguments were primarily as to the essence, goal, and methods of education as well as school organization. Fr. Michal Sopocko took a very active part in discussing these issues. He became a forerunner of the pedagogical thought contained in the Vatican II documents. The question of educating young people was not a merely theoretical and academic issue for Fr. Michal Sopocko, but it permeated his pastoral work as well. His teaching on education is of a very humanistic nature. The source of humanism is the dogma of redemption. Since, however, Fr. Sopocko extends education to the entire human being, hence, apart from the dogma of redemption, he also takes the dogmas of creation and sanctification as the basis for his teaching. He defines Christian upbringing as a drive to internal harmonization of the lower and the higher faculties. Jesus Christ remains the unchanging model for all educators and students. |
