Abstract

The involvement of Catholics in the life of a lay community presents tchem with various opportunities and obligates them to a concern for shaping worthy life circumstances for every individual. This is especially vital in the social and political life, particularly with in democracy understood as the manifestation of the will of the community. Today these duties are performed as a pluralistic dialog, in which the Christian faith and values should constitute a crucial point of reference. The social teaching of the Church based on the Word of God can not be ignored in discovering and explicating the rules of life of contemporary people. Moreover, due to God's authority present in it, it should be considered before any merely human arguments - a fact most often rejected by the advocates of the lay vision of running a society. Lay Catholics play a unique and irreplaceable role in these tasks of the Church. This analytical reflection discusses three ways of Catholic participation in building responsible structures of social life: 1. The Christians' "being" in the world in the biblical and historical perspective; 2. Serving the man as the measure of the ethics of social life; 3. Ways and forms of the Catholics' involvement in shaping the structures of social life.
