Artur Górski - pisarz ,,źle widziany" w powojennej Polsce

Abstract

In my article I am presenting the post-war life and cultural activity of Artur Górski (1870-1959). In the interwar period the author of the famous Monsalwat (1908) was a honorary editor of Adam Mickiewicz's Works under the auspices of the Sejm (the Parliament). Together with acknowledged experts in the poet's oeuvre, Górski continued devotedly his work during the war. In 1945 forced to abandon the task to complete the Sejm edition of Mickiewicz's Works, he had all the collected and preserved from annihilation archives taken away from him. The distinguished writer became very inconvenient for the authorities being in control of the institutions of literary life. On the basis of his unpublished letters to, among others, Stanisław Pigoń, Wacław Borowy, Ksawery Warzycki, Jerzy Turowicz, I am showing the post-war triais and tribulations the writer went through. The final years of his life and artistic activity reveal a wider scheme purposefully adopted by the authorities to bring about the discontinuity of cultural life between the pre and post-war periods.
