Abstract

A question about a proper relation between father and son is always important as a part of upbringing processes. The problem seems especially important nowadays, when results of education are rather far from being perfect. It requires studying sources that could help to find some rules regulating the son – father relation. One of them is the Book of Sirah, which is a part of the Old Testament. As God`s revelation, the Book contains His Word, which is the truth. There are some educational hints in it, particularly fragment 3, 14-15. A very accurate analysis of this excerpt shows that son should treat his father with mercy. Such a behaviour includes the element of forgiveness of sins, that can be offered by God. Moreover, treating a father with mercy, can also help to achieve the state of peace and endure hardships. This instruction should be an inspiration to a son building his appropriate, mercy-oriented attitude to his father.
