Aretologiczne „umocowanie” życia społeczno-moralnego

Abstract

To achieve the state of being good as a goal of human efforts requires an axiological and prescriptive basis. This basis is moral virtues and the way they are realized. Philosophy and theology define virtue as a value based on God’s law and grace which is the foundation of human morality. To identify these ‘strengthening’ mechanisms is a constant duty of man, especially the one facing intensive social and cultural changes. The aim of the article is to show an aretological basis of moral life in a society in the context of contemporary liberal and post-modernist trends. The analyses concentrate on three themes: 1) identifying the essence of the life of virtue and the principles behind its development, 2) virtue in practice as a way of organizing social life, 3) social virtues as prescriptive forms of a moral and social order.
