Topos polskich miast w poezji Maksyma Rylskiego jako źródło doznań zmysłowych i emocjonalnych

Abstract

In Maksym Rylsky's poetic heritage, there is a number of works containing memories, allusions and digressions related to Poland. Many of them are dated and the place where they were written is given; thus, they constitute a memory of the Ukrainian poet's journey to the land ofhis ancestors. It was in Poland that he wrote the cycle In Young Poland (1950), as well as most poems from the collection Autumn in Holosi yev (1959). The collections Roses and Grapes (1957), Distant Horizon (1959) and Winter Notes (1964) include individual poems devoted to the Polish culture and its creators. The topos of Polish cities is found mainly in the cycle of poems entitled In Young Poland. It is a poetic record of reflections, emotions and experiences related to Maksym Rylsky's first visit to Poland in 1945. This peculiar journal is composed of seven works: In Warsaw, In front of Mickiewicz's Statue, Copernicus' Statue in Cracow, Ljubov Jarovaja" in a Theatre in Cracow, In Wrocław, A Girl from Zakopane and Lenin's Museum in Poronin. They are fulI of admiration for Polish poetry, art and historical monuments, as well as of the memories of friendships the poet made in Warsaw, Gdańsk and Cracow. In Maksym Rylsky's works, large cities such as Warsaw, Prague or Kiev are recognizable thanks to their characteristic buildings. They are synonymous with development and progress of civilisation, science and technology. Smaller towns, in spite of their attributes, beautiful buildings and picturesque streets, remain somewhat anonymous. Their image is based on the values of the landscape which create a sensation of a rustic atmosphere.
