Zauberhafte Modifikationen der Phraseme in Romanen von J. K. Rowling und ihre Übersetzung ins Deutsche und Kroatische

Abstract

Die weltweit populären Romane von J. K. Rowling sind eine reiche Quelle der linguistischen Untersuchungen, in denen ein sehr interessantes Feld Modifikationen der Phraseme sind. Obwohl eine der Eigenschaften von Phrasemen ihre feste Struktur ist, sind in literarischen Werken Modifikationen der Phraseme oft zu finden. In der Regel sind sie von dem Text abhängig und werden mittels Substitution, Erweiterung oder Reduktion der Struktur der Phraseme gebildet (vgl. Barz 2007: 34). Diese Untersuchung bezieht sich auf die Problematik der Übersetzung von Phrasemen und ihren Modifikationen. Folgende Forschungsfragen sind zu beantworten: Wie wurden Modifikationen mittels Substitution gebildet? Wie werden diese Modifikationen ins Deutsche und Kroatische übersetzt? Ziel dieses Beitrags ist die englischen Modifikationen und ihre Übersetzung ins Deutsche und Kroatische zu beschreiben und analysieren. Mit dieser Untersuchung wird versucht, das Modell der Übersetzung von Phrasemen mit neuen und kreativen Komponenten zu gestalten und demnach der Entwicklung der kontrastiven Phraseologie und der Theorie der Übersetzung beizutragen.

In this paper, the modifications of the phrasemes with wizarding words from the popular novels by J. K. Rowling as well as their translation into German and Croatian were investigated to identify modification and translation strategies. In a total of 7 novels about Harry Potter, 28 modified phrasemes were found. The phrasemes that have been modified by substitution contain a new component that fits better the magical world of Harry Potter. Such nouns are usually closely related to the magical world, i.e. they represent either invented objects or animals or already existing objects whose meaning fits better the magical world. In almost all examples of German and Croatian translations, functional equivalence has been achieved, either with the use of a phraseme of similar or different form but of similar meaning or with the use of a paraphrase. Phrasemes are translated into German with a phraseme of similar form and meaning more often than into Croatian, which might be due to the origin of languages (German and English as Germanic languages and Croatian as a Slavic language). The translation with a phraseme of similar meaning but different form appears more often in Croatian than in German, while the phrasemes are translated into German literally more often than into Croatian. From this study, it became apparent that in the translation of phrasemes there is a tendency to produce full equivalents, although in the absence of phrasemes of similar form and meaning the translator tends to find the appropriate phraseme of different form or, as a last resort, translates the phraseme with a paraphrase.
