Tytuł: O tym, jak dawna myśl może żyć współcześnie, czyli refleksje na kanwie Słownika krytyki utopii czasów Oświecenia
Autorzy: Kuźmicz, Karol
Abstrakt: Today the importance of the Age of Enlightenment is undeniable. The cult of Reason and Nature not only contributed to the development of culture and science, but also to the development of the state, law and society. According to the Dictionnaire critique de l’utopie au temps des Lumi`eres (Critical Dictionary of Utopia in the Age of Enlightenment), XVIII century utopian thought may carry influence in the present era. This monumental tome, published in Geneva in 2017, is written in French and has more than 1400 pages. It is the product of the joint-effort of more than 50 scholars from different countries, all gathered round the dictionary’s creator and editor, Professor Bronislav Baczko (1924–2016). In 2011, Baczko received the Balzan Prize for his studies on the
works of J.J. Rousseau and Enlightenment. The dictionary is his crowning achievement and serves as a fitting tribute to his lifetime contribution to philosophy. It contains some 54 terms concerning the Enlightenment’s utopia, each having been the subject of critical analysis research. The issues addressed in the dictionary may be of interest if, not value, to specialist from a wide variety of disciplines including lawyers. In this latter respect the dictionary discusses such legal expressions as: the legislation, the law, the state, the police, crime and punishment, human rights and war and peace. The interdisciplinary nature of the dictionary is not its sole attribute. This is one of the latest studies on Utopia and the Age of Enlightenment, and the message Baczco’s delivers is both humanistic and universal.

Tytuł: Wspomnienie o Witoldzie Święcickim. Czasy do 1944 roku
Autorzy: Utkin, Joanna Ewa
Abstrakt: This collection of memories depicts the background of the pre-war legal career of the well-known Polish civil law judge, Witold Święcicki. His experiences range from his family background and childhood; his exile to Russia in 1905; his studies; the beginnings of his professional career; marriage; and repatriation in 1918. Successive posts held by Witold Święcicki during the Second Polish Republic, as well as positions on editorial boards of legal periodicals with which he co-worked, are listed. However, more important is the description of the functioning of the judge’s house, in particular his limited social contacts, which were reduced to the group of former, current or future related lawyers. German occupation stories are sourced from his daughter’s
coverage of events. A combination of historical events, which twice brought Witold Święcicki to the Bialystok district, are detailed. The memoir ends in 1944. The career circumstances for Witold Święcicki, were typical of the Second Polish Republic.

Tytuł: Dzieje parafialnych ksiąg metrykalnych w powiecie kolneńskim – przejęcie przez urzędy stanu cywilnego w 1949 roku
Autorzy: Truszkowski, Bartosz
Abstrakt: By the decree of 1945, post-war non-democratic authorities in Poland created the offices that from 1946 on, would administrate civil registry files. It was an important innovation in that during the Second Republic (1918–1939), Poland did not have a unified system of civil registration and used the legal acts of former rulers. In the case of Kolno County (which used the system of the former Kingdom of Poland) the vital records were written down by rectors of the local Roman Catholic parishes and had the character of public registers. These records were necessary for the new civil registration offices, which needed them for making copies of individual certificates. Due to very bad relations between the communist authorities and The Church, and because of weakness of the new administration, the operation was delayed by 3 years. The work carried out in that period was performed carelessly and chaotically, and ended with the confiscation of most of the vital records from years 1890–1945 from all parishes in Kolno County.
