Abstrakt: The new reality of development of identity is connected with new problems of the models of contemporary life: the fluency of identity, many contexts of identity, depriving the hitherto existing borders, virtual identity, and permanent crisis of identity. We should construct identity – as Zygmunt Bauman notices –on newly and continually created identities.&#xD;
The choice of the identity is developmental necessity as well as developmental possibility.&#xD;
The stable feeling of identity determines interdependence and the proper course of processes of distinction, integrality and constancy. The search for identity is the most essential and the most difficult task in man’s development. The favorably shaped identity is connected with psychological adaptation. The identity is of an interpersonal character, which is negotiable and changeable.&#xD;
The presented study portrays identity formation from developmental and educational perspective. Constancy and change are showed as contexts of man’s development. The identity formation is the process of the construction of meanings supporting cultural attributes too. The identity is analyzed as a basic task of the present education. The study takes into account the perspective of intercultural education too.</description>

Abstrakt: The right to bilingualism – this is one of the most important methods for national minorities to keep their own identity. Nowadays, this issue is regulated by national and ethnic minorities and regional language law (2005). This law is being seen as controversial in perception of many different groups – politicians, Polish society and even Belorussians from Podlasie. Some say that incorporation of this law is very expensive for the national budget and can lead to territorial disintegration and loss of sovereignty of Poland. It can cause ethnic conflicts or even social decomposition. Others want full civil rights and in their majority accept the introduction of double names of cities and villages. At the same time, those people express their disapproval for the introduction of the second, national language as an official language of communication in public offices on a local level.</description>

Abstrakt: The study explores educational contexts of shaping youth’s feeling of cultural identity. The opinions of lower secondary school teachers are referred to in regard to the tasks and contents of multi- and intercultural education implemented at this educational stage. Moreover, the new curriculum base for lower secondary schools is considered here and an analysis of a Polish language course book for grade I is undertaken with focus on the issues which are of interest to the authoress. What is also indicated are the consequences of educational practice for the identity of lower secondary school learners who live in the Polish-Czech borderland in Cieszyn Silesia.&#xD;
Every activity, also pedagogical, always takes place in particular conditions and is subject to the influence of environmental factors. The need for situating the activities associated with identity shaping in particular contexts and considering them as outer determined in many ways is an obvious fact and does not require any justification. Due to the pedagogical thought, appropriate regard for the educational context as a factor explaining the presence, contents, course and results of educational practice in the learner’s identity is far from sufficient. Therefore, this is worth closer consideration.</description>

Abstrakt: The contemporary world, which recently seems to be characterized by increasing unrest at both individual and societal level requires the revision of opinions voiced so far and specification of goals to be accomplished. In the globalization era, strong polarization has taken place: on the one hand, propagation of a homogeneous lifestyle, economic and political activities can be observed, with parallel narrowing of individual groups of reference being the source of our identity. Such a situation requires a revised approach to tasks of contemporary education and goals to be achieved. It seems that the report to UNESCO, entitled: Learning: The Treasure Within defines, anew and adequately, the tasks of contemporary education.&#xD;
Acquiring adequate cultural competences seems to lie at the foundation of personal and professional success. Despite the fact that in five considered cultures different types of cultural competences are named similarly, it seems common knowledge that motivation for acquiring them or emphasizing their most crucial elements is different. Each of the cultures mentioned represents a different type with reference to cultural dimensions and highlights different skills.&#xD;
In the chaos of the contemporary world, the only fixed point of reference is ourselves. In this perspective, the most important seems to be understanding of the self, our own reactions and thoughts, defining our own identity.&#xD;
This task seems to be particularly important in Poland and is a challenge to the Polish system of education. Not only has the whole world been undergoing transformation but the social, political and economic systems have also been strongly influenced, following the transformations of 1989.</description>
