Autorzy: Vorozhko, Anna
Abstrakt: Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeyev) who is the chairman of theDepartment of External Church Relations of the Patriarchate of Moscowis a closest associate of Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia. He is also a Doctor of theology and philosophy, and at the same timea renowned composer and fine musician.

His path as a composer as he says himself was unusual andunique. As a child he revealed a great gift for music – he could becomea composer of the world calibre. However, he gave up music, as he thenthought forever. He forbade himself not only to create music but evento listen... He had to take a choice – to serve the Orthodox Church orto music. He chose the Church, sacrificing his music career altogether. When he was 15, the Orthodox religion became the dedication of hislife. „I gave myself away to God and the Church and since then my lifehas never again belonged to me” – says Hilarion.

Only after many years, he broke that internal ban and returnedto composing music. Then he wrote sacral compositions, which debutperformance was a great success in the world largest concert halls: NewYork, Moscow, Vienna, and Vatican.

Metropolitan Hilarion is the first Russian theologian who studiedin Oxford (England) where he also had his doctorate. However, headmits that the biggest influence on his formation as an orthodoxclergyman and a person was the time he spent in the non orthodoxenvironment, when he had to defend his faith in front of people who belonged to other religious traditions. The theme of Tradition has sincethen become the main subject of all his theological books.

His musical compositions have been written for the OrthodoxLiturgy and are performed in the church as well as in the concert hall.„My goal was to give as many people as possible a chance to get toknow the Orthodox culture, that spiritual tradition which fascinatespeople in the Orthodox Church. I would like to expand the churchaudience and to show it that spiritual wealth which the Orthodox Church has” – says the composer.

Tytuł: Stanowisko patriarchy Jeremiasza II Tranosa wobec zmiany kalendarza przez Watykan
Autorzy: Borkowski, Andrzej
Abstrakt: Subject of the paper is a standpoint of ecumenical patriarch Jeremiah II Tranos on the change of calendar introduced by Vatican. Patriarch Jeremiah’s attitude in relations with the Roman Catholic Church has been similar to the earlier one concerning Protestants whohad attempted to attract Orthodox faithful through their far-flungactivities. Nevertheless the patriarch has managed to maintain friendly relations with both denominations. His wisdom and discernment has helped to safeguard the Orthodox Church and the faith against foreigninfluence of the non-Orthodox who have pursued solely to ensure theirbenefits. Orthodox believers in Polish Republic have obediently followed his orders consistently rejecting any novelties and aberrations of the Latin Church who has not accepted a method of dialogue preferring to use calendar reform as a measure to apply papal propaganda. Initialfailure of the Vatican has not restrained its policy on Orthodoxy. Active and uncompromising proselyte activity of Jesuit order has repeatedly led to tensions and fights between faithful of both Churches. Initial trial to impose the new calendar has turned into battlefield of pressure and persecution. Orthodox people of the Polish Republic have protested against the new calendar treating it as one of the main reasons of their struggle. In such a particularly critical period in history ecumenical patriarch Jeremiah II Tranos has himself rushed to the aid of Kiev Metropolis located within boundaries of the Polish Republic. During his visit in 1588–1589 he solved many burning dilemmas.

Abstrakt: The origin of Orthodox brotherhoods is connected with the role of laymen in the Orthodox Church. In the Great Duchy of Lithuania land owners took patronage over village parishes, while in towns this role was assumed by burghers, who were organised into brotherhoods since the end of the 16th century. The participation of laymen in caring over the church was a result of the tradition of conciliarity of the Orthodox Church. This was not merely a custom – it was the law of the Orthodox Church. Mikołaj Kojałowicz proved that the brotherhoods were created on the basis of city guilds consisting of craftsmen of the same trade. Their task was to defend the interest of a particular trade. With time individual guilds formed closed structures, which played a major rolein the socio-political life of a city.

Prenatalny rozwój człowieka w Biblii hebrajskiej: perspektywa judaizmu

Tytuł: Prenatalny rozwój człowieka w Biblii hebrajskiej: perspektywa judaizmu
Autorzy: Aleksiejuk, Artur
Abstrakt: There are several references to the first stages of human life in the Old Testament Scriptures. Some of them are formulations of both descriptions of the creation of man in the Book of Genesis, fragments of Psalms, historical books and wisdom literature. These fragments do not create a coherent conception, which illustrates the development of prenatal humanity. They rather point to God’s involvement in human conception and birth, which remains for us hidden and unconceivable. This article discusses questions of human conception in the context of Hebrew Scriptures. They serve as a starting point for reflections of the state of the human embryo from the perspective of Jewish bioethics.
