Tytuł: Komentarze do biopolityki. Polityka (pro)rodzinna w powojennej prasie kobiecej
Autorzy: Klich-Kluczewska, Barbara
Abstrakt: The article is aimed at answering the question of how actively and effectively women’s press editors responded to the turns in Polish post-war natalist policy, and whether they tried to play an active role in the public discourse of the era. I understand biopolitics as actions and strategies of modern dictatorship for controlling the population, among others, in the context of fertility decline, modern birth control or practices related to motherhood and fatherhood. I analyze the frequency of publications on the subject, the formula and structure of the narratives as well as the presence of expert statements.

Autorzy: Szwed-Walczak, Anna
Abstrakt: The period of the political transformation has aroused great interest in the press, including women’s press. The editorial staff of “Kobieta i Życie” [„The Woman and Life”] counted on activating women in the political sphere. The press commented on political changes, diagnosed reality and forecasted trends. The starting point of the consideration was that the women were underrepresented during the Round Table Talks. Attention was
paid to the ironic approach to women’s movements in Poland. Due to the fact that women’s issues were not discussed at the Round Table, the editorial staff of “Kobieta i Życie” [”The Woman and Life”] organized a series of meetings and article „About us with us”, „If not us, then who?”, „They will not let you down” among others. The aim of the paper was to show the way of articulating women’s problems, the structure of issues addressed, as well
as the mechanisms of promoting women figures involved in politics. The research caesura covered the years 1989–1997.

Tytuł: Stan wojenny i dyskurs nowego porządku na łamach magazynów kobiecych w Polsce początku lat 80. XX wieku
Autorzy: Stańczak-Wiślicz, Katarzyna
Abstrakt: This paper seeks to explore how the martial law and the politics of the ‚new order’ were pictured in Polish popular women’s magazines at the beginning of the 1980s. After martial law was imposed on 13 December 1981, all but two press titles were suspended. Most of them were reinstated in the first half of 1982, but their editors were obliged to observe the so-called „socialist values” and to represent the policy of the ruling party. Therefore, in the women’s press, officially interested in the problems of family, everyday life and culture, texts justifying the decision to impose martial law and explaining the new political line began to appear. They represented a variety of journalistic genres, from journalism to correspondence with readers. A particularly interesting example are (to a large extent) signed letters to the editorial office. The metaphors of family breakdown, marital infidelity and, on the other hand, internal peace, order and coping served to describe the political reality. In my paper I will analyze language strategies used for political propaganda in the context of the shifts in party-state policies towards women and family in the early 1980s.

Abstrakt: A periodical paper “Mirror: the Magazine of the League of Polish Women “was an official organ of LKP (the League of Polish Women), an organization with strong ideological connections with PZPR (the Polish United Workers’ Party). As its main policy was transmitting information about politics and the participation of women in the reality of the Polish People’s Republic from 1982 to 1989, it served as a channel of communication between the communist government and educated women in Poland. The magazine aimed at strengthening human resources in LKP and the communist party. The press coverage
tended to focus on women’s issues such as family problems, parental leave, professional careers and economic crisis. Women’s political participation became a popular issue mainly during the time of municipal and parliamentary elections in 1989.
