Every particular text is proper for the communication situation, and its overriding goal is to implement a certain intention of the sender. Functions of the letter manifest in certain speech acts, which are analyzed in the article with reference to the letters of E. Orzeszkowa. Every letter is a compilation of some speech acts, but the overriding goal of the text determines its structure, language, contents and style. Because of the location of the letters between speech and writing, colloquial style is the most frequent, but the wish to give them features specific to belles lettres indicates a need to analyze, apart from the practical function, also their aesthetical function. The analysis of epistolography of E. This is why the title of this article uses the term quasi-guidebook, i.e. a pseudo-guidebook, a guidebook-like publication. A sensitive reader will certainly be able to find elements of guidance in such works: a certain template or anti-template of love, models of conceptualizing the phenomena connected with the creation of a certain emotional sphere. Every author presents his/her own vision of love, creating and visualizing a specific methodology of behavior of people in love. Indirectly, s/he also gives hints connected with organizing one’s life when it is subjugated to love, both happy and unhappy love, in its spiritual and physical dimensions.
