In the writings of Dzikowski, Podoski, Niczyporowicz, Lovell, and others Sejny appears at times as a site of ethnic conflict, and at other times as a haven of peace and spirituality. Particular attention is paid to the role of the Lithuanian minority and, in a broader context, to the activities of the Borderland Foundation, which seeks to reconstruct the lost cultural mosaic. Sejny is portrayed as a palimpsest – a town where various layers of memory and identity remain present and legible.; Artykuł przedstawia Sejny jako miasto pogranicza, w reporterskich prezentacjach od początku XX wieku do dziś, ukazując ich dwojaki charakter – jako przestrzeni napięć i współistnienia. Based on this example and using Hobsbawm’s concept of “invented tradition,” Kochanowski is the first to present the process of creating a new narrative of Białystok in cultural texts. This narrative emphasizes the merits of the Catholic Church in saving the city from the catastrophe’s aftermath, thus erasing the traces of Jewish history in Białystok.
