Interior of the Earth have a symbolic rank, we associate it with gloom and darkness, in folk traditions people associate it with evil. As an unexplored area, interior start attracted attention explorers, who want learn more about inside the Earth, as yet inaccessible to humans. This was the beginning of underground mountaineering. Similar to high mountain climbing, this form of activity, in natural entail the emergence of the travel descriptions about caves and undergrounds. In this article author analyse this kind of literature, starting from first polish explorers and ending with contemporary descriptions of descent into the Earth. O reportażach Macieja Jastrzębskiego Autorzy: Rott, Dariusz Abstrakt: The paper discusses the latest book by Polish radio journalist, Maciej Jastrzębski, titled “Kremlin’s ruby eyes. Secrets of underground Moscow”. It is one of many recently published narratives about Russia and its capital city. The analysis covers fragments about misteries and mysticism of Kremlin (especially its undergrounds and the so called library of Ivan the Terrible), secrets of the legendary Moscow subway, and popular and numerous urban legends. Much of the focus is on seekers-troublemakers, called the diggers, who explored the Moscow underground. I am especially concerned with determining the levels of risk, professional and personal, to which Grotowski was exposed, and what extent the Polish Secret Police and Communist Party were involved. Many people has been writing and a lot has been written on Grotowski’s theatre in general, but not about Grotowski’s theatre as an institution. The author has discovered some rare and precious materials. These are some interesting secret police files discovered in IPN. Visions – ideas – symbols’, held at the Rybna Palace in Tarnowskie Góry on 6–7 April 2018. The conference was jointly organised by the East-West Chair of Language and Literature Studies of the University of Białystok, the In stitute of Polish Studies and Culture Studies of the University of Opole, the Łu kasz Górnicki Library in Białystok, the Rybna palace, the Adam Mickiewicz Literary Society, and the Tarnowskie Góry Land Lovers’ Association. The organising committee was headed by Dr. Małgorzata Burzka-Janik (University of Opole) and Prof. Jarosław Ławski (University of Białystok). Dr. Elżbieta Łucka-Zając (University of Opole) served as the conference secretary. The sessions were held at the baroque Rybna palace in the Silesian town of Tarnowskie Góry. As part of the conference, the following research topics were presented and discussed: – the literary representations of journeys into the heart of – to the sources – to the centre – to the interior of the Earth; – caves, mines, crevices, faults, cliffs, the interior of a mountain, and other natural and man-made structures providing insight into the entrails of the Earth in literary fiction; – geology, geognosy, and other Earth sciences vis-à-vis literature and art; – tourism and industrial travel-writing as an image of the century, the times, and customs; – transformations of the image of the Earth interior from the Enlighten ment through Romanticism to the present day; – impact of the German Romantic philosophy and literature on the unveiling of the Earth interior in Slavic cultures; – Stanisław Staszic, Wincenty Pol, and Zygmunt Gloger on the Earth and its ‘entrails;’ – Jules Verne as the inspirer and explorer of the theme of a journey to the centre of the Earth; – the imaginary world of the (Earth) interior as a • symbolic space • demonic space • a space where different values hold good; – the traveller, wanderer, tourist, pilgrim to the (Earth) interior as a literary protagonist; – the Earth interior in ancient and modern art; – the journey to the centre of the Earth as a cultural and literary metaphor; – the Earth interior and the prehistory and history of the human race; – the Regionalist dimension of reflections on journeys to the Earth interior. The topics were tacked by twenty-five researchers from Katowice, Siedlce, Białystok, Gdańsk, Kraków, Bielsko-Biała, Wałbrzych, and Warsaw. On April 6th, conference participants could enjoy a concert of classical music titled Neo-Baroque Inspirations. On the next day (April 7th), a session was held at the historic silver mine in Tarnowskie Góry, a UNESCO World Heritage site. After the session, the attendees made a guided tour of the mine. This book brings together studies on the Polish, French, Russian, and German literature and culture from the 16th to the 21st century. It has been edited by Dr. Małgorzata Burzka-Janik (Opole) and Prof. Jarosław Ławski (Białystok). The preface has been written by the originator of the conference, Prof. Jarosław Ławski (University of Białystok). La conférence a été honorée par le concert de musique classique Inspirations néo-baroques (6 IV). Le lendemain (7 IV), les chercheurs ont délibéré à la mine d’argent historique de Tarnowskie Góry, qui se trouve sur la liste des monuments de l’UNESCO, qu’ils ont ensuite visitée avec un guide. Le volume apporte des réflexions sur la littérature et la culture polonaise, française, russe et allemande du 16ème au 21ème siècle, et a été édité par le docteur Małgorzata Burzka-Janik (Opole) et le professeur Jarosław Ławski. La préface du volume a été rédigée par le fondateur de la conférence, le professeur Jarosław Ławski.Le volume est en grande partie constitué de discours sur le thème des créations littéraires des profondeurs de la Terre, même s’il prend également en considération le monde de la peinture et du cinéma. Die Konferenz wurde eröffnet vom klassischen Konzert Neobarocke Inspirationen (6.4.). Am nächsten Tag (7.4.) besprachen sich die Forscher in der historischen Silbermine in Tarnowskie Góry – seit 2017 UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe – und besichtigten sie anschließend mit einem Führer. Der Band enthält polnische, französische, russische und deutsche Literatur und Kultur vom 16. bis zum 21. Jahrhundert und wurde herausgegeben von: Dr. Małgorzata Burzka-Janik (Opole) und Prof. Jarosław Ławski. Das Vorwort zu dem Band schrieb der Initiator der Konferenz, Prof. Jarosław Ławski.Der Band enthält vor allem Abhandlungen, die literarische Schöpfungen der Tiefen der Erde zeigen, aber auch die malerische und filmische Perspekti ve. Auf besondere Weise präsentiert er die Forschung von Wissenschaftlern aus Oberschlesien, einem Gebiet Polens, das seit Jahrhunderten mit der Industrie, den Minen, der Erkundung der Tiefen und dem Untergrund auf der Suche nach Reichtum, aber auch der Höhlenforschung, der Geologie und dem Bergsteigen verbunden ist.
