Abstrakt: The article discusses the literary activity of Mikhail Zhuk. Mikhail Zhuk is a famous Ukrainian modernist artist, a poet, a writer, a playwright, a tale-teller. But his works as a translator are practically unknown. M. Zhuk translated from Russian, Polish, English, German, French. He also translated Ukrainian texts, both his own and Ukrainian writers, into Russian. The article presents five translations of M. Zhuk from Polish language. Two translations from Maria Konopnitskaya, one from Juliusz Slovatckiy and two translations from Leopold Staff.</description>

Abstrakt: The article analyzes the depiction of the Ukrainian province, Donbass, in the documentaries Ihor Minajew (Cacophony of Donbass) and Serhij Loznica (Donbass). Minajew, a documentarian from Odessa living in France since the 1980s, took issues with the documentary by Dziga Wiertow (Symphony of Donbass, 1930). His Cacophony of Donbass had its premiere in March 2018 during the Docudays UA festival. Minajew reconstructs the myth of working class – the fundamental element of the Soviet simulacrum, which in his opinion led to the outbreak of conflict in Donbass in 2014. Arguably, in his documentary, Loznica reveals the predatory mental cruelty and essential immorality of neo-Sovietism that affected the Ukrainian communities living in Donbass on the instigation of Moscow and pro-Russian President Wiktor Janukowycz, who imposed on the regionm the logic of simulation that had nothing to do with the logic of facts.

Abstrakt: The author analyses a short, but very interesting reportage about Odessa titled The South (Południe) written by a writer and a journalist, Ziemowit Szczerek. It is part of his book Tattoo with the Trident (Tatuaż z tryzubem), which in 2016 was nominated to the prestigious Nike Literary Award. The book presents the process of forming the Ukrainian state on the debris of the Soviet civilization. Szczerek’s narrative is very impressionistic and the author – the subject exploring the city, does not hide his emotions and uses very specific emotional code. Only marginally does he refer to the typical Polish mythical topography which in its modern variant consists of the three elements: stairs, sea and harbor.</description>
