Abstrakt: The article interprets the book Muzułmanie, islam i ja [Muslims, Islam and Me] by Michał Christian, which is an account of his stay in Algeria, where he worked as a specialist in the repair of construction machinery in the late eighties.While the main reason for Christian’s trip was the desire to join his wife – Aleksandra Kasznik-Christian, history professor and scholar working in North Africa – the main impulse to write the account came from the September 11 attacks and Oriana Fallaci’s books. The article aims to deconstruct the Orientalist preconceptions underlying Christian’s vision of Islam and relations with Muslims.</summary>

Abstrakt: This article analyses the image of Africa presented in Le Clézio’s novels. The author claims that a part of childhood spent in Africa determined Le Clézio as a man and writer. This experience inspired him to write two novels: Onitsha and The African creating Africa as a place of infinite freedom that puts an end to fear imposed by the war.</summary>

Abstrakt: The article addresses the question of African inspirations in the works of African-American artists. In the poem Heritage Countee Cullen asks: “What is Africa to me?”. The question was also formulated by African-American intellectuals, social activists, and artists, in particular those associated with the Harlem Renaissance, becoming an important metaphor in formulating racial and artistic identity. The article traces this quest in selected literary works which echo the Dark Continent and supplements the discussion with examples of visual arts from this period inspired by Africa.</summary>

Abstrakt: The present paper concentrates on the descriptions of Tunisia in the diary by Aline Réveillaud de Lens (1881–1925), a French painter and writer who in 1911, shortly after her marriage, came to live in Tunis.&#xD;
Reluctant to French norms and conventions, de Lens sees Tunisia as an ideal, fascinating land where she may finally be happy. This fascination is reflected in her descriptions of spaces which are to be analysed through&#xD;
the prism of geocriticism in three movements: Tunisia as a land of light and colours, Tunisian symbolic spaces – desert and oasis, and stereotypical Oriental spaces – palace, harem and hammam.</summary>
