Abstrakt: The aim of the article is to describe relations and stereotypes between national groups in the city. First part of this study contains basic theories and understanding of stereotypes, which affect social interactions. National stereotypes can provide some information about a culture, but they do not describe people. In fact, unfavorable stereotypes of national or ethnic groups are potentially very dangerous, forming the bases for prejudice, discrimination, persecution, or even genocide. Second part of the article is based upon research. Author describes national stereotypes that occur between four national groups in Bialystok (Polish, Byelorussian, Lithuania and Ukrainian). Conclusions of this research is that the region is not free of negative national stereotypes and behaviours. People should learn and understand that we are all prone to these kinds of preconceptions and likely to believe that they are justified by our experience, when in fact they are often unfounded stereotypes. We need to remind ourselves to see people as individuals, whether they are Polish, Lithuanian or Byelorussian.

Abstrakt: The article attempts to explain the phenomenon of the return, after decades of collective amnesia, of the memory of Podlasie Jews to the public life of the citizens of this province. This “return of memory” can be seen in many spheres of life of the local communities and regional society: from school curricula, through festivals, official celebrations, to turning the rich Jewish past of the region into a tourist attraction. What makes this phenomenon very interesting is the fact that the “natural subjects” of this memory – Podlasie Jews – almost do not exist here. There is no Jewish community or Jewish social, cultural or religious life in the region anymore, and in the majority of cases the “memory revival” is only possible thanks to the efforts of the non-Jewish activists and organizations. Why is the region facing the return of the past of Podlasie Jews now – almost two decades after the democratic change in Poland? The author suggests several factors, which are, among others: the democratization of the Polish society combined with the pluralization of the paths of remembering, the changes of Poles’ self-perception, the revival of interest in the local past, the changes of school curricula to more open and multicultural narratives, the generational change and the intensification of contacts between Podlasie inhabitants and the Jewish Diaspora. All these have made it possible that more and more often the local Jews who lived here for centuries are, like in the research being done by the author, referred to as “Our Jews”, the folks.</summary>

Abstrakt: Three issues have been emphasized in the image of Russia and Russians propagated by national socialists: 1. Roots in German way of thinking. 2. Using stereotypes and treating like objects. 3. Innovation in the way of promulgation. The first aspect concerns a several hundred years old tradition of thinking about Russia in Germany, which assumed presenting it as anti-Germany. These old notions provided Adolf Hitler with material to build a Nazi image of Russia. The second aspect includes analysis of efforts carried out on image of Russia and Russians in the Nazi propaganda, so that it can have specific functions: substantiating of the Third Reich policy, as well as fulfilling psychological needs of the German nation. The description has been brought down to stereotypes of enemy and slave, built as a contrast towards idealized auto stereotype of Germans. The third aspect refers to using scientific achievements (psychology, theory of propaganda) and technical achievements (radio, film) by the Nazi propaganda apparatus.</summary>
