Abstrakt: The character of Félicité, presented by Gustave Flaubert in A Simple Soul [Un coeur simple], a tale published in 1877, is considered here in historical perspective in order to better understand her work in domestic service, permanent celibacy and overall sad story. The first section traces the genesis of this work, as shown in the writer’s correspondence and his family background. The second part is devoted to his method, as he proclaimed it. The last section argues that F´elicit´e was a very ordinary victim who had fallen, as many other female servants, into the trap of lifelong service which had crushed her destiny. In the European past, a woman who stayed for life in the same family as maid-of-all-work and remained unmarried was far from being a rare case or counter-model. Actually, servants were considered unproductive by economists and therefore found themselves excluded by Marxism from the class struggle. The original piece of literature under study was more a short story than a fairy tale, and since it intended and succeeded to be true, it did not meet the readers’ expected enthusiasm.</summary>

Abstrakt: The article is devoted to Krystyna Miłobędzka’s texts for children’s theatre. Demonstrating the kinship between the characteristic ways of thinking of poet and child, the author analyses how space is created – the space for both child’s play and poetic ritual. Highlighted in the work is the idea of how things are done through the use of clich´es, child’s words and rhymes in poetic language. The main character of Miłobędzka’s scripts is language – its potential and power for creation.</summary>

Abstrakt: Drawing on the concept of intertextuality, the article offers the reading of Robert Macfarlane’s travel book Mountains of the Mind. It explores the process which frames the collective Western imagination of the mountainous landscape and uncovers the formation of a unique discourse. Finally, the intertextual methodology demonstrates how walking in the footsteps of mountaineers entangles the real-life experience with the literary.</summary>

Abstrakt: The article offers a reading of Jacek Hugo-Bader’s controversial reportage Długi film o miłości. Powrót na Broad Peak (2014), which is frequently viewed as a story about the tragedy in Karakorum. The author of the article emphasizes that this piece may be also read in a more universal way as a reflection about non-fulfilment. She analyses the literary representations of multidimensional spatial experiences in the highest mountains such as sensual responses to extreme altitude and temperature, the life-and-death threshold experience as well as the spiritual relationship with the mountains. She also remarks other literary aspects of Hugo-Bader’s work, for instance the extreme “embodiment” reportage of Gonzo style.</summary>
