Abstrakt: The subject of the city is discussed by researchers in various fields. The following article considers the influence of literature on urban space. The author attempts to catalogue multiple aspects of the presence of literature in a city. This is illustrated by the examples from Warsaw and also other Polish cities. The final part contains the results of a survey which could contribute to further studies of cultural elements in urban space.</summary>

Abstrakt: The article offers the reading of the ancient novel Metamorphoses, otherwise known as The Golden Ass by Apuleius. It relies on the theoretical frame of theater ecology (or oikology), which is the artistic concept initiated and practiced by Włodzimierz Staniewski at the Academy for Theater Practices “Gardzienice”. The nomadic and ecocentric aspects of this perspective indicate its similarities with geopoetics. The geographical space, nature and spirituality intertwine as the protagonist, who turns into a donkey and is introduced to the cult of the goddess Isis, sets on a journey in the search of οἶκος (home).

O ekoteatralnej podróży i boskiej przyrodzie w „Metamorfozach” Apulejusza z Madaury, wygłoszony 10 czerwca 2016 roku podczas Ogólnopolskiej Konferencji Naukowej „Przestrzeń w perspektywie geo- i ekopoetyki. Interpretacje” na Uniwersytecie w Białymstoku. Wybór tematu stanowi efekt doświadczeń naukowych autora w Pracowni Ekologii Teatru na Wydziale „Artes Liberales” Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego.</summary>

    <summary type="text">Tytu&amp;#322;: Jan Czekanowski: antropolog na Czarnym Lądzie

Abstrakt: The article is devoted to the diaries of Jan Czekanowski, an outstanding Polish anthropologist, who travelled to Africa in the years 1907–1909. Special attention is given here to the narrator’s attitudes. Czekanowski knew Africa primarily as an anthropologist and traveller. He perceived the process of colonization as a weave of economic, political and ideological motives. He was also indignant with colonial exploitation, which he observed mainly in Belgian colonies. However, Czekanowski’s portrait of Africa evokes the concept of orientalism, as defined by Edward W. Said. Its prominent aspect was perceiving the Other through the binary opposition between the East and West. Moreover, in spite of his declared affection for black Africans, the Polish scholar uses Orientalistic and colonial stereotypes which seem consistent with the nineteenth-century trends in travel literature.</summary>

Abstrakt: The article is devoted to the problem of idiolect in literary translation on the basis of Charles Dickens’s Christmas story The Cricket on the Hearth (1845) and its six Polish translations. Special attention is given to the character of Tilly Slowboy and the individual features of the language she uses. The article emphasises stylistic and linguistic differences which can be observed in a detailed comparative analysis of Tilly’s idiolect in the Polish translation series.</summary>
