Abstrakt: It seems that the characteristic feature of modern societies is their cultural, religious, ethnic and language diversity. Intercultural education is assigned a special role in creating national, regional or unit identity, taking into consideration such attributes as, for example, mother language, national and cultural symbols and development of social links.
Rich theoretical output of multi- and intercultural education allows for looking at the occurrence of social inequalities, marginalization and exclusion relating to, for example, national and ethnic minorities, diasporas, emigrants or political refugees, in a new light. The significant place in the discussion on this subject belongs to the theoretical analysis of the occurrence of the stigma phenomenon and the possibility of using the output of social capital concept and intercultural counseling, supporting the identity of individuals representing various national or ethnic groups.

Abstrakt: The author analyzes educational policy and initiatives of the European Union and the Council of Europe for the benefit of intercultural education.
Special attention was paid to the evolution of educational initiatives in the light of the social, demographic and cultural transformation of contemporary society.
At present, the majority of European education systems take account of this dimension, which is concerned as much with the content as with methodology of teaching.
Currently, the European Union and the Council of Europe broaden intercultural approach and wish to create a new dimension of intercultural education, making it a tool of agreement between cultures and nations.

Abstrakt: Borderland is a very specific region. Its specificity is primarily due to the uniqueness of relationships and social ties formed historically and culturally stigmatized in the minds of the residents. The essence of the contemporary educational activities in the area of regional education should not only be the content of transfer (in various forms) but the preservation or restoration of social relations treated as a universe of moral responsibility. Ties, which generate a community characterized by interdependence of people defined, provide cooperation in the implementation of various activities related to the “primary objective”, which is to sustain the community.

Abstrakt: In the early Middle Ages the Sejny Land was occupied by the tribes of Yotvingians. After the fall of Yotvingia in the 13th century, the “settlement desolation” came about. The start of the new settlement on the Sejny Land began in 1522. As the years passed, the population of Poles, Lithuanians, Russians, Jews, Tatars and Germans settled in this place. Nowadays, the Sejny Land is inhabited by Polish, Lithuanian and Old Believers–Russian descendants.
These above-mentioned nationalities left some kind of cultural heritage, which is still transmitted. Tradition, customs, religion and language are handed down from one generation to another. The Museum of the Sejny Land offers a rich collection of this cultural heritage in which nationality division is deeply covered. The museum has a lot of interesting exhibits selected for individual exhibitions which, along with the activity of this institution, are used in regional and multicultural education. Educational actions are realized by the “museum pedagogy” and “museum education”. It creates a lot of possibilities for multinational appointments, which enable people mutual knowing of different cultures. These initiatives emphasize the rank of the museum and its role in the educational system.
