Abstrakt: This article examines “Sońka”, both Ignacy Karpowicz’s novel and its protagonist, as a site of memory, focusing on the processes of relocation and “rewriting” that structure the narrative. Drawing on theories of cultural memory, conflicted memory, and multidirectional or wandering memory, and engaging, among other sources, with the work of Aneta Prymaka-Oniszk, the article investigates the ways in which individual and collective memories are transformed, displaced, and renegotiated. It identifies six forms of relocation in Sońka, understood as shifts in meaning that involve acts of renaming and reinterpretation. These include Igor’s relocation from Warsaw to Królowe Stojło; Sońka’s relocation from Królowe Stojło to Warsaw; her movements across temporal as well as spatial dimensions through returns to the past; metaphysical relocations associated with death; linguistic relocations manifested in acts of literal renaming; and relocations of Sońka into other artistic and literary works. Through these interconnected processes, Sońka emerges as a distinctive “knot of memory” in which multiple narratives, identities, and historical experiences converge and intersect.</summary>

Abstrakt: Franz Kafka’s literary legacy includes a brief but remarkably original text that shifts attention away from the authorship of Miguel de Cervantes’ most celebrated work and toward the ontological status of its protagonist, Don Quixote. Entitled The Truth About Sancho Panza by its editor Max Brod, this parable engages with the metafictional possibilities already present in Cervantes’ novel. By describing himself as the “stepfather” rather than the creator of Don Quixote, Cervantes opens a space for speculation about the true origin of the character. This invites a range of interpretive possibilities, which may be explored either from within the fictional world itself, through the creation of fiction within fiction, or from an external perspective that blurs the boundary between fiction and reality. Kafka adopts the former approach, suggesting that Don Quixote is, in fact, a creation of Sancho Panza. Through a close reading of Kafka’s text in dialogue with Cervantes’ novel, this article examines the literary and philosophical implications of this provocative hypothesis. It argues that Kafka’s reinterpretation is not merely a playful exercise in literary imagination but a hermeneutically grounded reading that finds significant support in the narrative structure and thematic concerns of Don Quixote.</summary>

Autorzy: Borek, Bartłomiej
Abstrakt: This article examines the intertextual relationships between Kazimierz Przerwa-Tetmajer’s poetic cycle Dla rymu [For the rhyme] and Kazimiera Zawistowska’s sonnet Mniszki [Nuns]. It focuses on the linguistic and semantic affinities between the two works, highlighting the dialogue Zawistowska establishes with Przerwa-Tetmajer’s poetry. Central to the analysis is the concept of “overwriting”, through which Mniszki emerges as both a reinterpretation of and a creative polemic with Dla rymu. The article also considers the iconographic context, exploring the connections between Zawistowska’s sonnet and Edward Burne-Jones’s painting The Wedding of Psyche, thereby enriching the discussion with visual and symbolic dimensions. The study concludes that the poem exemplifies a modernist play with literary conventions in which the sacred and aestheticism converge to create a coherent poetic vision of Atlantis: an idealized space that functions as a literary counterpart to a spiritual quest.</summary>

Abstrakt: This article examines the representation of interwar Vilnius in Valentina Krupovies’ book Topografie wileńskie. Obraz międzywojennego Wilna w perspektywie peryferyjnej nowoczesności [Vilnius Topographies: An Image of Interwar Vilnius from the Perspective of Peripheral Modernity] (Siedlce, 2025). Focusing on the concept of peripheral modernity, it explores the theoretical premises of this approach and evaluates its application to the study of urban space. The article assesses the explanatory potential of the concept and highlights the new interpretative possibilities it offers for describing and analysing the spatial experience of interwar Vilnius. Particular attention is paid to the tensions between peripherality and modernisation, which emerge as key factors shaping the city’s identity and representation.</summary>
