Tytuł: Przypadek Stanisława Barańczaka
Autorzy: Rogulska-Kołodziejska, Agnieszka
Abstrakt: The article discusses ways of presenting Stanisław Barańczak in literary theory and historical studies but also in biography entries published, for instance, in encyclopaedias, reference books and anthologies. The author of the essay draws upon her own expertise in Polish philology and history as well as the lessons learned while working on the poet's profile for the Encyclopaedia of 'Solidarity' [Encyklopedia "Solidarności"]. In the essay, the issue of two separate places the author of Ethics and Poetics [Etyka i poetyka] has in Polish history and in the history of Polish literature is the focal point of her reflection, as well as the question why that is so. She postulates that the image of the poet and that of the dissident be combined in one biography. Moreover, she indicates that there are two meanings of a career in Stanisław Barańczak's case, and discusses research prospects related to the writing of his biography. The complexity of the poet's biography seems to offer an opportunity to view his work among other things, from a more innovative perspective. Writing the article, the author relied on studies on literary theory and modern history as well as sources from a number of archives.

Abstrakt: The article is to remind the life and history of Kalman Segal, almost a perfect example of a career in the People's Republic of Poland. This sympathising with communism in the Second Polish Republic poor Jew after the war became an author of valuable short stories about the Shtetl written in Yiddish and Polish, and, on the other hand, of numerous books in which, in spite of the 'thaw, socialist realism echoed, which was a tribute to be paid to the new and supposedly better regime. Editions in enarmous number of copies by national publishing houses, meetings with the author, favourable reviews - all this contributed to building of an image of a widely-read and respected writer and journalist of the radio of Katowice. His career collapsed in 1968. Although the wave of anti-Semitic campaign did not affect him directly, in a gesture of solidarity with other Jews Segal left for Israel a year later, where he wrote little and died in solitude in 1980. While his last novel came out, 'by virtue of inertia', in Poland in 1969, after that there has been dead silence about him: his biography entries are nowhere to be found in most of later studies published in the People's Republic of Poland. None of his books has been reedited ever since.

Tytuł: (Auto)kreacje Janusza Głowackiego
Autorzy: Ziegler, Paweł
Abstrakt: In my text, I would like to brief1y ref1ect on the phenomenon of the artistic activity of Janusz Głowacki, in particular the beginning of his career. The researched literary material for the most part comprises of texts written in prose (early short stories and essays from Warsaw 'Kultura') and also dramas written before 1981. I am focusing primarily on the reception and interpretative potential of these texts, in this particular article, in a way, leaving aside the analysis of the plays as such and the prose pieces, or presenting a very general stance that requires further completion. In the first part I am presenting a literary profile of Janusz Glowacki, then I am discussing critical texts about his works. In the main part of the article, through pointing at the most important interpretative topics in the writer's texts, I am ref1ecting on the issue of building the project and vision of reality, which emerges from the discussed literary material. These projects, in my opinion, determine the popularity of the writer, which is not limited to commercial success (very frequent editions, reissue of published prose, translations into foreign languages) but also due to the unique and particular way of building up his literary narratives. My analysis attempts to review and identify new potential which, indeed, has been noticed by critics in literary texts of the author of Off My Mind [Z głowy], yet seems very likely to develop into a completely new direction. My approach to and way of interpreting Głowacki's texts, although in this article insufficiently explained and narrow, derives from the perspective of the concept of post-structuralist intertextuality and Mikhail Bakhtin's concept of dialogism.
