Abstrakt: The article discusses the problem of actor as a role model in the Enlightenment. Its purpose is to determine parenetical strategies in texts and statements referring to actors and theatre. The qualities of an actor as a role model are discussed in the context of Old Polish patterns and cultural conventions. The research material is Wojciech Bogusławski’s Dzieje Teatru Narodowego, including twelve biographies of the prominent Polish actors. The memoirs by the former director of the National Theatre are perceived as a text promoting role models, an affirmation of a concrete vision of the theatre and a ‘mirror’ of the life of the actor in the Poland of the Enlightenment period. The actor is seen as a model of patriot and citizen who serves his homeland and cultivates traditional values, which were the qualities promoted in those days. The analysed text shows the changes in the attitudes towards the actor The institutionaliaztion of the theatre and the Classicist theatrical doctrine contributed to the positive evaluation of the actor’s profession.</summary>

    <summary type="text">Tytu&amp;#322;: Powieść czy speculum? Pan Podstoli Ignacego Krasickiego

Abstrakt: The authoress argues Piotr’s Żbikowski point that Pan Podstoli is an Enlightenment version of speculum or mirror, which is on of basic genres of parenetic literature. Krasicki does not show the process of becoming a perfect gentleman – landowner, but gives the finished model of an enlightened Sarmatian. Mr. Podstoli in this sense is a mirror in which he can view anyone who wants to imitate him, especially as the prototype of the hero character was real, Antoni Starzeński. The authoress shows that Pan Podstoli is a parenetic text, within the frames of a novel discursive. Krasicki, creating new varieties of the literary species (the novel) goes back to parenetic tradition of Old Polish literature. (Żywot człowieka poczciwego by M. Rej, Rozmowy Artaksesa i Ewandra, a discursive prose text by S. H. Lubomirski. The authoress also highlights the important role of narrative in combining elements of fictional and discursive.</summary>

Abstrakt: The article addresses the problem of ambivalent perception of baroque romances, criticised by old Polish moralists and yet increasingly popular among numerous readers, particularly in the first half of the 18th century. Those opposed to this type of literary work accused it of causing moral corruption in young people by depicting love adventures and undermining traditional behaviours, while supporters of the genre considered such stories to provide models of new emotional sensitivity and create an opportunity for love education and mastering the skills necessary to build a happy relationship.</summary>
