Autorzy: Ruta, Marcello
Abstrakt: The article examines Walter Benjamin’s dissertation Der Begriff der Kunstkritik in der deutschen Romantik (The Concept of Art Criticism in German Romanticism), written between 1918 and 1919 and published in 1920. It is at least from the publication of L’Absolu by Philip Lacoue-Labarthe and Jean-Luc Nancy40 that the article obtained a central status in the research into Romanticism. This centrality, as Lacoue-Labarthe and Nancy rightly pointed out, is based on the fact that Benjamin’s dissertation is focused on understanding early Romantic aesthetics as a cultural phenomenon that is not based on literature, music or art in general, but should be considered above all through philosophical questions.

Abstrakt: The article refers to the culture and politics of Central Europe, and more specifically to the context of the “uncertain zone of small nations” (Milan Kundera), which is largely unknown in the West. Poland’s specificity becomes the starting point, which in turn allows to present the literature of Poland’s neighbors, i.e. Lithuania, Czechia and Slovakia, all of which shared numerous historical and cultural similarities with Poland, as well as a close relationship.

Tytuł: Debiut i skandal: casus Zapolskiej (z romantykami w tle)
Autorzy: Janicka, Anna
Abstrakt: The article recalls the scandal related to Gabriela Zapolska’s 1885 literary debut Akwarele (Watercolors). The texts from this book included a short story Małaszka. Jan Ludwik Popławski in his 1885 review Sztandar ze spódnicy (Skirt banner) accused Zapolska, among others, of plagiarism of an unnamed work published in Kharkov. The author points to similarities of the works of a Ukrainian writer Hryhorii Kvitka-Osnovianenko (Biedna Oksana [Poor Oksana], 1841) and a Polish writer Zenon Leonard Fisz (Pokojówka. Szkic obyczajowy [The Maid. A moral sketch], 1850) to Zapolska’s short story. Although the author points out that Fisz was Kvitka-Osnovianenko’s translator, she also emphasizes the difference the same motif of a seduced female servant was portrayed by Kvitka-Osnovianenko, Fisz and Zapolska. He argues that plagiarism was out of the question.
