Wydolność wychowawcza rodzin najuboższych w Drugiej Rzeczypospolitej

Abstract

During the Second Republic of Poland there was a sudden increased interest in child upbringing and family which was considered the most important educational environment. Scholars who represented various areas ofknowlege (e.g. educators, sociologists, psychologists) carried out research on the family. They paid special attention to farmers' and factory workers' families. The results of the research demonstrated generał condition and educational efficiency of the poorest families. They also detected some shoncomings and failures in child upbringing which, in tum, enabled to take preventive steps and deterrnine ways to compensate those failings by educational and child caring institutions. A significant percentage of farmers' and factory workers' families didn't fulfill basie educational functions to their offspring. It generally didn't result from parents' bad intentions but from lack of basie know lege and pedagogie awareness, unaquaintance with basie higiene rules and difficult economic situation. A number of preventive activities were undenaken in order to enhance the level of education, culture and generał knowledge throught the society and to irnprove condition of the lower classes of the society. Previous ad hoc charity help was substituted with organised social welfare.
